Acute Care Unit/Critical Care Unit
Contact: Keith Ungrund, RN, Director
Phone: (307) 578-2300
Hours: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Services:

The Critical Care and Acute Care units are patient- and family-focused units where care is provided for acutely ill psychiatric, medical and surgical patients across the age spectrum.

A mix of highly qualified nursing personnel including Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, Visual Observation Staff and Unit Secretaries work as a coordinated team to perform the myriad of job duties in a 12-hour shift, which include coordinating plans of care with other facilities and departments, passing of medications, pre- and post-operation education and discharge education for families and patients. This is by no means all they do as they attend to the psychosocial, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patients.

Families are encouraged to stay with the patient and become involved in his or her care. There is a large family room with amenities such as large-screen TV, Internet access, DVD/VHS player, books, movies and comfortable furniture for relaxing. This room also offers a kitchen. Families and the patient may gather here for special occasions and lunches. It can also be utilized by auxiliary departments such as Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy to teach patients how to get around in a home-like setting.

The staff of the Acute Care Unit and Critical Care Unit strives to provide the safety, comfort and care you need so you can be at “home” when you are at home.

Services: Spirit Mountain Hospice provides skilled home care services within a 50-mile radius with 24-hour on-call availability. The goal of our staff is to provide services that promote quality of life by restoring, maintaining and facilitating health.

A plan of care is developed for each patient according to individual needs and physician orders. This is a Medicare/Medicaid program that provides palliative comfort care rather than curative care. We rely on an interdisciplinary team of professionals – physicians, nurses, medical social workers and therapists, spiritual counselors, home care aides and volunteers who coordinate the individualized plan of care for each patient and family. Services are provided primarily in client's homes and include medical, emotional and spiritual care for terminally ill patients and their families. We strive to bring them comfort, peace and a sense of dignity at a very difficult time. Hospice reaffirms the right of every patient and family to participate fully in the final stages of life.

A person can become a Hospice patient upon the diagnosis of a terminal disease and a discussion to shift the goals of treatment from curative to palliative therapies with the focus on maximizing the quality of remaining life.

Respite care
When caregivers just need a break
Should a caregiver need a short time of rest or relief, a patient may be admitted to the hospice house for what is known as respite care. A patient may be admitted for up to five days during a respite stay.

General inpatient care
When you require more help than we can provide at home
Sometimes patients need to come to the hospital or the hospice house when they require procedures or treatments necessary for pain and symptom management. Inpatient care is available when extra support is needed in the final weeks of life or as symptoms become too complex to manage within the home. General inpatient care is also used to provide education for families about how to provide care to their loved one. Once stabilized, the client may return home or the hospice staff will assist in placing the person in an alternative setting such as a nursing home or assisted-living facility.
