About

Thomas J. Reid, III is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology.  His philosophy and approach is to provide the absolute best oncology and hematology care: individualized care that focuses on the patient— not solely cancer or blood disorder.

Dr. Reid is originally from Harrisburg, PA where he earned his BS in Microbiology at Pennsylvania State University and Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Purdue University. He earned his MD at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD, and completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Hematology-Medical Oncology at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC), Washington, DC.

From 1991 to 2004, he was at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research; Chief of Blood Research the last three of those years. His primary research interests were extended storage of blood products/substitutes and coagulation disorders.

From 2004 to 2008 he was Chief of Hematology-Medical Oncology at the WRAMC. As Chief, he also served as Chair of the Cancer Care Committee, Co-Chair of the Institutional Review Board, and Principal Investigator (PI) for Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB).

After 27 years in the Army Medical Corps, he retired in 2008 as a full Colonel. From 2008 to 2011, he was in private practice in Conway, Arkansas.

From 2011 to 2012, he was Chief, Hematology-Medical Oncology and Oncology Program Director at MedStar Good Samaritan and Union Memorial Hospitals in Baltimore, MD. There, he also served as Co-Chair of the Clinical Research Committee at the Lombardi Cancer Center, Georgetown University Medical Center.

Beginning January 2013, Dr. Reid has served as the Medical Director of the Memorial Regional Cancer Center and Chief of Hematology-Medical Oncology at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN (Beacon Health System) where he built the cancer program.

In addition, he was the Chairperson of the Cancer Care Committee as well as the local PI for Alliance (Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology) through the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Reid was instrumental in the Beacon Health System becoming a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network in 2016.
